Consider telegraphy

Both the telegram and the contemporary digital image share a flat, one-dimensional information architecture. The printed telegram consists of words. A human is required to interpret the semantic sense. To create a linkable and searchable telegraphy archive, human professionals would have to identify keywords and subject matter, and manually index each telegram.

The digital image

Like the telegram, the digital image has a flat, single layer architecture. People or artificial intelligence (such as computer vision object recognition) have to identify objects, appropriate keywords and subject matter, and index each digital image. Indexing, in both cases, is concerned with the whole document. The image as document has no hierarchical structure (such as hypertext organizational and relational structure). Keywording an image references the whole image without the distinctions of visual content and multiple layers of information.


Compare the telegram to a contemporary hypertext document. A hypertext document has a multidimensional, rich data structure. It has broad content descriptions, such as titles and subtitles. Each word of a hypertext document is located relative to broad content description (e.g. chapter, section, page) within the document and between different documents on the internet to which it is hyperlinked.



Eyegorithm Technology

A visual percept within the hyperimage document is located relative to broad content descriptors (e.g. image foreground layer, groups of objects layer, object layer) and other documents on the internet to which it is hyperlinked.
